Mountain West Connection 2023 Season Awards.

Here at MWCConnection, we continue to reflect and analyze this past football season, both this week as well as over the months to come.

Yesterday, we released our postseason all-MW teams. Today, we are releasing our postseason awards. Like yesterday’s post, our team members submitted their picks, and the players and teams with the most votes won out. Take a look at what we said in the preseason here, and then view what we compiled below:

Awards

Offensive Player of the Year:

• RB Ashton Jeanty (Boise State)

Defensive Player of the Year:

• DE Mohamed Kamara (Colorado State)

Special Teams Player of the Year:

• K Jose Pizano (UNLV)

Offensive Breakout Player of the Year:

• Jalen Royals (Utah State)

Defensive Breakout Player of the Year:

• LB Andrew Simpson (Boise State)

Offensive Freshman of the Year:

• QB Jayden Maiava (UNLV)

Defensive Freshman of the Year:

• Paul Fitzgerald (Utah State)

Coach of the Year:

• Barry Odom (UNLV)

Team Breakdown:

UNLV: 3

Boise State: 2

Utah State: 2

Colorado State: 1

Notes:

• Offensive Player and Coach of the Year were the only unanimous choices.
• Four other awards were one vote away from being unanimous (DPOY, STPOY, Defensive Breakout, Offensive Freshman)
• Offensive Breakout Player was the closest race this season.
• No category had more than two people receiving votes.
• Andrew Simpson, for Defensive Breakout Player of the Year, was the only one on our postseason list who made this end-of-the-season list. No one else from the preseason list received a vote.
• The Rebels took home nearly half of the awards this season. Boise State and Utah State got two awards each. The Broncos weren’t much of a surprise but the Aggies were.
